Ramblings no.5

I've heard of rumors flying about of the existence of a 3rd Batman installment.
As you may or may not know, I had a deep emotional connection to the 2nd film, as in, it touched me deeply as it portrayed us perfectly as human beings. (for more, facebook has my note).

In any case, all this talk about a 3rd film's villain had me thinking,
the ending to The Dark Knight was about how Batman has officially turned from vigilante to fugitive. That he willingly sacrificed himself to ensure Gotham has a brighter future, so that Harvey Dent's legacy would be one of good and never evil.

Therefore, to ensure the continuity of a good film, the "villain" in this case would therefore have to be someone hunting down Batman in the name of good. A vigilante hunting a fugitive.
Therefore throw out characters like Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Clayface, Killer Croc, Mr. Freeze (some would be too science fiction for good fiction such as Batman films) anyway.

My picks for potential villains:
Bane: From the comics, immigrant inmate whom trains his body and mind in order to take over Gotham and is experimented on with the drug "Venom" to enhance his body. Breaks Batman's back.
Azreal: Cult worshipper who takes down Bane and whom in turn gets taken down by Batman.
Red Hood: Jason Todd, former Robin. Differing philosophy with Batman about not killing villains/people in particular as it doesn't "scare" them enough.
Black Mask: Recently featured Batman villain, very organized crime mafia type with a taste for torture and violence.

All these are just suggestions. But actually I rather make a guess about what the 3rd movie will be about rather than the villains.
The 1st was to introduce the character, explain his motivations and to set up for the 2nd movie. Honestly, wasn't a great film, but was a solid one in its purpose.
The 2nd one was about building a character, exposing the sides of human nature and ultimately ending up with the good guy sacrificing himself for the greater good.

Hence, my guess for the 3rd film would be about Batman dealing with the consequences of his decision. How it affects him in his normal "life" where dealing with criminal activities is balanced with not being caught/killed by the police. Followed by the introduction of a new villain who is seen as Gotham's new saviour who then proceeds to systematically take down Batman. Batman wonders whether to resist as he wants Gotham to be taken out of the shadows and to compound the arguement, what's one more sacrifice other than the ultimate one, the Death of Batman?

Ironically, the villain could be Edward Nigma (but not the Riddler, mind you), a genius private investigator who is solving impossible cases and cleaning up Gotham with a brilliant mind and powerful masterstrokes that expose criminals leading to their arrest. Batman's motive triumphs but Batman does not.
Only ending I can see (rainbow optimistically) would be a new threat faces Gotham and Edward is unable to solve it leading to Batman being called upon once again and the ending being an understanding and a "show" of cat and mouse between the two "enemies" turned friends.
